A Secret Unfolds

It is almost Christmas and Darla is still having problems sleeping. Michael has had enough of Darla’s sleeping problem especially since he is the cause. He is determined to get Darla to sleep during Christmas break.

Earl and Lori are out of the country for the holidays with their families; Darla and Michael have the village all to themselves. Michael goes up to the tree houses and locks up all the pathways to the palace. Then he runs to Darla’s house and knocks on the back door. Rameno let him in.

Michael runs through the house looking for Darla. He finds her in the living room with his Grandma Cora, watching old movies together.

Michael stands in Darla’s way of the TV and challenges her to a race.

Darla yells out, “Move, dirt bag, you are in my way!”

Darla throws a pillow at him but misses so she gets up and kicks him. They begin to wrestle on the floor together. Michael kept calling Darla a chicken because she knows that she cannot win against the champion of the world!

Michael is laughing and starts to tickle Darla…she yells at him to stop and then she gets away and jumps on the couch next to Cora. Darla told Cora to tell Michael that she was just too tired to race.

Cora replied that if she did not get out side and race Michael, she would tell her family that she was sick and needed to go to the doctor.

Cora kicked Darla outside. She had never seen her act that way. Cora was hoping that she was not going to turn into someone lazy, like her mother. Besides, she wants them to like each other for more than just friends. Why should she keep them apart because Darla just wants to lie around?

Darla raced Michael to the tree house, but she was the loser. She fainted at the top of the deck. Michael got out his cell phone and asked Cora if Darla and he could stay the night in Darla’s tree house palace because his parents were gone for a few days and he did not want to be alone. He told his grandma that he has some new video games for them to play.

Cora called and asked Darla’s Grammy and she was okay with it because both of Darla’s parents had flights scheduled for the next two weeks because of the holidays.

Michael was thrilled, but did not let his grandma know what he was up to; and so, he jumped up in the air and silently yelled, “Yes, my plan worked.” Then he hung up the phone, went out on the deck, and carried Darla into her bedroom. He laid her down on her bed, took off her shoes, and covered her up with a sheet. Michael moved her hair from her face and asked, “Are you alright?”

Darla nodded her head yes while trying to focus. Michael went and locked all the doors, and then he ran back and sat down on the bed next to Darla, with Darla’s dream book.
